...it’s no secret that wood species vary in density and weight....and it’s equally evident that specific examples of any wood species may vary in density and weight...it’s the resonance of the wood and how it is brought out by the design and build that produces the finished product....

...it follows then that it is possible to either under or overbuild a guitar and that there is an optimal weight for each individual guitar....that is why a trained and experienced builder can consistently produce a great sounding guitar....

.....from the conversations I have had with accomplished builders they are trying to find optimal strength to weight ratios so that they may build a responsive and resonant guitar...that generally means building as lightly as possible without compromising structural integrity....the final weight may vary based on the wood itself and what it’s optimal mass and thickness is...
