I like the sound of the Gibson a little better.

Both sound great to me and in-line with what I'd expect from each builder/guitar. I'd say it boils down to whether you like the overtones and complexity of the Collings over the dry/mids-focused sound of the Gibson. The stuff I play is old blues and folk, so I tend not to use guitars with a lot of overtones.

I switched from fingertips to picks about 10 years ago, by the way, because I wanted to get more power and dynamics out of my guitars (per Jwills57's comment). You would probably hear more complexity from both guitars if you used picks or nails.

What is your preferred style of music? Do you sing over the guitar at all?
