Default FS: Martin HJ-38 Stefan Grossman -TRADED

TRADED - Thanks AGF!!

I'm finally caving in to sell my RARE MADAGASCAR Martin Stefan Grossman.

Trades considered for a hog dread with Adi top, hide glue, pre-war oriented specs. Cash is still king though.

$TRADED shipped to CONUS. PayPal F&F preferred or buyer pays fees.

Limited Edition #185. I was told by Martin CS there were only 190 made. One of the best Martins I have ever played. The deeper "J" body brings out gorgeous round lower registers w/o sounding boomy like a dreadnaught. The highs shine through on the top beautifully to balance out the full tonal spectrum of her voice. Either fingerstyle, flatpicking, or strumming, this axe covers it all.

K&K Pure Western Mini installed. Sounds amazing. I'll throw in a K&K XLR preamp or the smaller belt-clip type if I haven't sold them first.

Very mild impressions may be seen under certain light angles and thick glasses. No deep scratches, dents into the wood, cracks or repairs. Not mint but very close.

Default Stefan

I worked with Stefan and Dick Boak on the particulars of this model,
including the bracing size and string spacing. This is my favorite Martin model:
just got one from Capital Music in Albany. Grab it!

I have no connection with the seller; just love the model!

I just watched some El McMeen fingerstyle.

If he says, it’s so.

Thanks El and Neal. El, what a great job you did on this project. It really is an amazing sounding guitar. This one has opened up really nice, too.

Default Stefan model

I would have bought this if it had been posted before I saw the other one.

Depth at the neck heel =3-3/4"
Depth at the butt end = 4-7/8"

Width at the widest point on lower bout = 16-1/16"
Width at the widest point on upper bout = 11-3/4"

#9 has been with me since 2010. Stefan, El, and Dick designed a winner.
Love the neck, string spacing, and restrained use of bling on this guitar.
I had an 80's J-40M that had the best Sitka top of any instrument I have owned and this one is in the same class, just the right amount of toner too.
Martin's signature models offer a lot of great features at a reasonable price, especially if you can find one used and the ergonomics of the model fit you.
Tweedy, Juber, Keb Mo', Muldaur, and Rowan signatures have all come and gone, but the HJ-38SG ain't goin' nowhere.

I have one of these, and can attest to how great they are.

There's something special about Madagascar RW, apparently. Every Martin I have with that wood is special, as are a couple of Gibsons I have with it.

I've had a few guitars (still have a couple) with Brazilian RW, and I actually prefer the ones with Madagascar RW so far.

Considering trades - Acoustic or electric. Acoustic would be higher end D-18 family. Electrics would be Asher, Artinger, Scott Walker, Fender custom shop strat, or something with gold foils. Tell me whatcha got.

Default FS: Martin HJ-38 Stefan Grossman model - Price Lowered

Thanks for all the nice trade offers coming in. Haven't really absorbed it all to rule anything out just yet. I know a Flammang, Pre-War, McAlister, Thompson, etc. would get my attention pretty quick though.

I got #162 from Jon Garon in 2011 and still have it. It was awesome right from the beginning and has only gotten better over the years. I love it! Really loud, responsive, rich sounding, Martin. The new owner should be very happy....
