Many recommendations have been posted on the Marshall AS50R http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...se_pid/483194/
and the Ultrasound AG50S2 http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...se_pid/488501/ |

In your price range I would look at a Marshall AS50R--50W, 2x8" spkrs., one 1/4" hi-Z, one XLR lo-Z/1/4" balanced channel, chorus and reverb assignable to either or both, not too unwieldy, RCA jacks for a CD/tape player, line out jack. I love mine. And though it's no longer UK-made, I think it's still a UK company, so you can be patriotic and support your country's economy (whoops--does that make this a Loading Dock post? ). I've A/B'ed it against the Fender Acoustasonic Jr. and 30, and it beats both of them.
For a bit more, you could go with the UltraSound line, but if you want reverb on the mic channel, you're looking at quite a bit more. If you're willing to spend somewhere between the Marshall and the US 50 Pro, take a look at the Roland AC60. Very compact, but sound way beyond its size. It could use a tad more bass, but a subwoofer (even one borrowed from your stereo) works well for that.

I tried the AC60 and agree with Sandy...it's physical size belies its volume. It uses 6" or 6 1/2" speakers, though, which doesn't support a lot of bass.

I don't know if SWR Stawberry Blonde is available in the UK. If it is it will surprise you with outstanding tone and volume. The Ultrasound is a good value. Since Marshall is a UK product do you find the price lower than comparable US amps (Fender, Roland)?

Marshall is based in Milton Keynes England, just North of London, equi-distant between Oxford and Cambridge. Sandy, where are the Marshalls made? Is it just the acoustic guitar range made outside the UK?
