Phantom power interface recommendations
I picked up a dpa core 4099 microphone and am very impressed with it so far sound quality is blowing away my best pickup combo to date (lr baggs anthem)
But, the only interface I have right now to record it with is the usb conversion on my Boss Accoustic singer live. My others don't have phantom power available. I started looking at all the options available like the Apollo twin etc and it seems to be an overwhelming selection. The main issue I have with the ACS live is that i need to add about 16db of gain in my DAW to get the levels right, so i assume i am losing some of the content and dynamics. The zoom f6 and myriads of others seemed interesting as well. Any help would be appreciated. I do not have a particular budget in mind but it seems like going much over 1k would be serious overkill for recording a single guitar and mic. Last edited by Aspiring; 07-03-2020 at 12:11 PM. |

That is an idea. I could use it with my AXE FX 3 as the interface. I was looking at recommendations for a dedicated interface as well.
Thanks, Ron Quote:

How about a Yamaha AG03 mixer, or an ART Tube pre-.

I use one of these for recording into Reaper on my PC - in fact mine is the 2nd Generation, the 3rd Generation model has better features - excellent kit.

I’ll +1 JayBee1404, I use a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 to record into Ardour, it works great!

If all you need is to provide phantom power, there are many inexpensive phantom power boxes out there, Just run a TRS from your guitar to the box and an XLR from the box to your interface.

That wasn't the exact question. I am trying to understand how much better I am likely to get recording wise with other phantom power / interface combos.
The sound is quite good already through the phantom power mic in on the acoustic amp but is low on level. Additional phantom power is likely one good way my other thought is am I likely to do better yet with something like the interfaces mentioned here or another step up to something like the Apollo antelope or apogee. |

Why not one of the Focusrite Scarlett audio interfaces? I have the Solo.

I have heard good things on the focusrite. I decided to splurge a bit and ordered the antelope synergy 4. Right now it's also bundled with an interesting mic that does a bunch of modelling.

I've been a fan of MOTU products for a while now, particularly if you are a Mac user. Many of their products aimed at the home studio come with recording software, and have mixing capabilities controlled by bluetooth with various routing functions and built in effects that are software controlled.
I've been using a Track 16 (discontinued) for a while now, but am jonesing for four mic inputs. You could use one for a live duo show. I've found that if you compress the signal before Zoom gets a hold on it, you can get a much better sound. I'm doing this for a virtual open mic. You can also track dry, but send some reverb to the phones output. If you are a PC guy with any of the popular DAWS, it works with those. But I have found the mixing capabilities and internal effects to be very useful.

The Focusrite showed up today. None of the antelope gear.
It does seem to take things the next step up for sure but I am definitely starting to add complexity. I used the Isa one directly into the xlr in on my axe fx and have been playing with various settings on the axe I also tried using the di from acoustic singer into the AXE FX 3 and both of those options have been much better than recording USB out from the acoustic singer. It's funny. Every previous step along the way I keep telling myself oh that sounds great. Then I take another step play the old one and go hmm. Old one not so great. |
