00 question
Hi Andy.
The 00 has an epoxy rosette. Have never seen one like this. What exactly is an epoxy rosette. daniel |

I wanted a dark, dark red - favourite colour of the young lady I’m building this one for. Looked at various woods (bloodwood, red heart, padauk, etc) but none quite fit the bill. Decided to go with epoxy as it can be tinted to any colour. |

00 Rosette
You guys ( Luthiers ) are not only gifted craftsmen / women but also creative.
Just as an aside.... I took on a small woodworking project last week. Cutting and glueing cedar strips to replace some broken cedar window pieces. I spent more time fixing my errors ( glueing shims, adding wood and glue filler etc etc ) than actually making the pieces. Needless to say I have a new found appreciation for the talent ( years of work / trial error / creativity ) that guitar builders actually possess. I certainly will not take my next custom build for granted. Nice works far Andy. d |

I count seventeen pieces of wood added for each top. It gets complicated doesn't it!

15 pieces plus the top…and each one has a purpose for being there.

Bounsall build: curly walnut 00 and sapele dreadnought
Progress update: soundboards are voiced. Material is gradually removed from the braces by tapering, scalloping, profiling, and sanding. All the while tapping and flexing to check how the tone and stiffness are changing.
Braces are tapered… IMG_1173.jpg …scalloped… IMG_1174.jpg …profiled… IMG_1175.jpg …and sanded. IMG_1176.jpg Last edited by Andy Bounsall; 01-06-2023 at 12:25 PM. |

Good looking guitars, Andy.
Maybe I missed it somewhere in the thread, but what neck joint do you use?

Took me a minute or two to understand what you meant but that’s pretty good, Mike. I’ll have to find a better way to do this. I’ve been trying to share photos hosted on my Facebook page. For some reason, FB randomly changes the url for some photos and as a result, the pic no longer shows up here. I then have to edit the posts here with the revised link to the photo. It’s a pita.

Thanks Craig. I use a bolt-on mortise and tenon joint. Necks should be next up on this thread.
