Default Soft finish advice

The last custom made guitar I bought is great, I have 2 from the same builder.

Happy with the guitars, sound is great but the finish process is about 16ish coats of nitro. They look great but with the slightest playing the finish shows wear. I am very soft on playing, never had guitars that I put more than a little pick scratching on but these show everything.

Any tips on working with him for a stronger finish I rarely put on pick guards as I go with bear claw tops. I've no issues with all my guitars through the 50 years of playing.

So looking for suggestions on finish applications or a clear pick guard solution where it would be visible?

Thanks for any help.

Thin clear pick guards should help. You can hardly see them and the bear claw will show through.
