It's not the age of the artist, it's just that I've found out that most older folks (I'm 58 so I'm the exception) find her a bit too edgy.

I think you tend to prefer the sounds of your past as you get older. I'm 55 and she's not my cuppa. The guitar suits her style though.

I am almost 66 and think these 3 songs are nothing short of great. I have watched this episode 10 times or more since it was released about a week ago...

I'm in my 30s and kind of a hipster, but she doesn't do it for me. Her voice and singing style kind of bug me. I've seen her hailed as a guitar god, but I just haven't seen anything that lives up to that. I'm glad she is doing her thing and having success though, and don't want to badmouth her. I just don't think it's fair to assume "you're probably over 50" just because someone's taste doesn't align with your own.

Oh, let me come eat lunch at your table, Marty, cause I'm your age and I think she's great too!I like her when she gets her pedals going too.

I'm convinced that each and everyone has a right to like or dislike any artistic expression whatsoever. It's a matter of personal taste, which is a highly subjective thing. Which is great Nothing to do with age.

Personally, I do not share the enthusiasm and hype around this artist too. However, this particular performance touched my strings. I liked the simplicity and honesty of the setting. Reminded me of her earlier collaboration with Andrew Bird.

Stylistically, not my cup of tea at all. Keep in mind I like a pretty wide range of music (guided by voices, jose gonzales, belle and sebastian, ryan adams, buzzcocks, glenn campbell, beatles), but I found her vocals lacking and guitar playing mediocre.
Hopefully there are no relatives on the forum. Still great to hear what others like in music!

I'm a fan, have been for a while. Ya know instead of calling it "putrid" you could try to see something positive, like "at least she's playing guitar". I've seen a lot of threads lamenting the death of the guitar so.......

Either way no artist is going to appeal to everyone.

I'm 57 and a big fan of Annie/St. Vincent. Anyone who takes their stage name from a Nick Cave song is a-OK in my book. She's definitely not everyone's cup of tea.

I saw her current tour when she came through town a few weeks ago and it was amazing. Just her alone on stage with backing tracks and visuals. It sounds like it would be awful but Annie is someone who can pull it off! Here's a sample:

Her style changes from album to album. She's definitely in an edgy phase now.

Here she is from 10 years ago covering Nico's These Days.

Big St. V fan here. 66 isn't too old to be young.

Didn't realize that he had written it. Thanks for the heads up.

Exactly. I find her more appealing as an artist than her guitar chops (although she is a talented player, as well). She reminds me of an American PJ Harvey (tying in that Nick Cave relevance), where she reinvents persona for each album and tour.
