Yes I think that is sort of what I am looking for both of those.

I do have a nature one with waves and sequenced music. Every 10 minutes is the same 3 seagul chirps that everyone says "Did you get a cat" roll:

Hi, Renee, and welcome to the forum! If you're looking for some interesting music, here are a few more suggestions:

Helicon - these guys are somewhat grounded in Celtic music but play tunes from all around the world. They're Chris Norman on flute and whistle, Ken Kolodner on hammered dulcimer and fiddle, and Robin Bullock on guitar and cittern.

Ken Kolodner / Greenfire - Ken and Robin joined with fiddler Laura Risk to make three great CDs focusing mainly on Celtic music.

Robin Bullock has also done some solo CDs, and I think he's often overlooked. He's a wiz at both flatpicking and fingerstyle. I don't think he plays a Taylor, but I don't hold that against him. BTW, I'm not a relative of his.

Trpullen: That's an interesting comment about Master Works dulcimers, but I can't say I agree. Most of the MWs I've heard have been kind of bass-y and loose, which is not to say bad, just not like Taylors. I have a couple of James Jones dulcimers that I think are more Taylor-like, with a voice that's better balanced and a little more controlled than the MWs. It's all subjective, though, and it depends somewhat on the hammers being used and whether they're padded. However, If you have a chance to sample Steve Schneider's CD called Momemtum, you'll get a feel for what I mean. Heck, it's a good CD to track down anyway, though it's a little hard to find.

So you are saying you think the Master Works is an artist or a dulcimer company.

Actually, it has been years since I have heard the Masterworks stuff. He used to be based in Colorado and moved to Texas or the other way around or something. Before the move, I was very impressed. After the move, they were different and I stopped paying attention. You could very well be right.

Some of you might like to know that Renee has emailed me privately, and has begun helping me understand paganism and how it relates to her love for Taylors.

See, it's possible for people of different faiths to talk openly and freely with mutual respect. Too bad it doesn't happen more often on a world wide scale.

True. I was enjoying the other faith based threads till the mudslinging and all got too bad. Shame.

I was too. One of my best friends in seminary is a pagan. I am fortunate to attend a very ecumenical seminary, one that is dedicated to respecting, while not agreeing with, many faith traditions. I get very discouraged when honest dialogue degenerates into a food fight.

Default Celtic Music!

That is what I was looking for and just did not know what it is called because the only people I knw who listen to Celtic music are Pagans. Thanks for the help. Yes there are unfortunantly other guitar sites where one can not bring up religion with out getting <edit for spelling> attacked by another group.

I know... she catches a LOT of flack (not of the Roberta kind)... but ENYA has some pretty nice stuff out there... 'The Celts', 'Shepherd's Moon' and (maybe?) 'A Day Without Rain'... amongst other albums she's done. Somewhat Celtic with Classical underpinnings... maybe a bit over-orchestrated in places... still pretty easy to listen too, though!

I don't know much about what's listed or the source, but here's a link to a web page containing a "LIST OF RECOMMENDED CELTIC CD’S":

Of course, if you go to a "hard core" Irish session, you'll find a lot of Catholics.

Seriously, there's a gap between traditional Irish music and the Celtic-based new age stuff, with some people doing a crossover from time to time. There are also people who are fusing Celtic with rock, jazz, and other styles to create new and very exciting sounds. If you have a chance to listen to "Thistle and Shamrock" (sadly, we can't here in So Cal anymore) you'll hear a wide range of great music.

Sorry to get off track.

Unhappy Thanks Trpullen

Sometimes my typing is a bit on the rough side.

In fact there is a local Irish pub that plays Irish music (not the older "Celtic" stuff) and it is full of great Catholics. I have had several great conversations with a retired priest.

I have an Enya cd. I don't remember which one. Sort of all the same after awhile, but it is good and thickly produced.

I wish accoustic albums would layer the same parts. I think if a track of Taylor sounds good why not triple the parts to make them real fat sounding.

What seminary do you attend and what sort of plans when you are finished?

Which sort of Pagan is your friend?

How about Loreena McKennitt? Her music is wonderful.

Have a great Celtic day!!

For some really good Celtic solo guitar, check out Al Petteway, especially his "Caledon Wood" CD. Yes, I will admit that I am biased, since he is my mentor, but I think Al is one of the best in this genre. BTW, all of Al's CDs have a Mel Bay songbook, so you can learn to play them . . . most are out of print, but you can still get them from Al's website: www.fairewood.com

Tell him Jim (the one with the Taylors--he'll know who you mean!) sent you . . .

I attend Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, OK. Be done in December of 2004. I will be a full time parish pastor when I'm done. I intend to try to build a ministry oriented in community outreach. A lot of it depends on the congregation. My friend Cal is an Asatru priest. He's one of 2 pagans in the seminary. The other is a Wiccan. Cal has a website http://rheinwoodasatruassembly.org/

He and I are polar opposites. We don't agree on a lot of stuff, but we are great friends, nevertheless.
