Agree. Kind of expensive for a GS Mini. The seller may be thinking there’s a guitar collector out there willing to pay for it...let’s see if it gets sold...

That’s an ouragious price. Used ones have typically hovered around or slightly above the retail price, which was standard GS Mini +$50 or so I think (may not remember this right). And I assume that’s because of the limited run, unique Engelmann top and inlay.

The maple is also from the same area, but of course it’s a laminate that according to Bob Taylor sounds the same no matter what kind of top wood is on the laminate. Which means the tonal differences all come from the top.

Default My GS-Mini Mahogany

Longtime lurker, first time poster. I love this forum.

I have a GS Mini Mahogany that looks like it has a flamed mahogany top. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get my picture to show up on here. But I love my guitar.

Hi. Welcome to AGF.

First you have to download the Tapatalk app to your handphone. If you are using an I-Phone, you have to go into the App Store to download Tapatalk. Once Tapatalk is downloaded on your handphone, just type Acoustic Guitar forum. You should be able to assess the AGF and any pictures that you have captured with your handphone can be pasted onto the thread you participate in. Hope this helps.

Thank you! I really enjoy my GS Mini. It’s just such a fun couch guitar.

I will gig this afternoon with my 2012 Mahogany GS Mini at a local nursing home. Our group today will comprise 3 steel string guitars and one nylon string guitar, along with a mandolin. We will play totally acoustic, no pickups or microphones.. Everybody sings, including the residents. My GS Mini is easily loud enough to hang in the mix.

A little off topic but since we are talking mini's...I just put a bone saddle in my koa mini last night. So far, I am liking the results, longer sustain and a little deeper bass. At least to my ears.

For those of you that capo this instrument, do you have issues with tuning stability? I've mentioned this before, but this is the worst instrument I've ever had in terms of tuning with a capo. I have to re-tune anytime I capo. And no, I'm not cranking down or forcing the strings sharp that way. I even switched to a G7 Heritage capo to try and solve this.

I have a second GS Mini Koa arriving on Tuesday. I'll compare. If that one is stable then it's time to warranty this one.

You guys also notice how anemic the tone is when capoing above the 3rd fret? I'm learning a song that's capoed at 7. Sounds pretty bad on the GS Mini.

I absolutely agree, my left handed Mini Koa is always pulled out of tune when I use a capo. I have tried different capos, varying positions on the fret, and the result is always the same. Likewise ,mine too sounds very thin the further up the neck I go.
This is probably not the thread to say this, but I do think the G.S. mini is both overrated and overpriced. I do enjoy mine, and expectations are not unrealistic, but as smaller guitars go, I much prefer my Alvarez AP70.
A more direct comparison might be the all solid wood Faith Mercury Natural at a similar price (in the U.K.) My friend has one and I have to admit its a better guitar in every way than the Mini. Im always reluctant to hand it back. It loves a capo too, and has a sweet tone wherever it is placed on the neck.

I avoid using capo on my GS Mini Mahogany. Whichever of my capo I used, the tuning has been a problem. It's weird.

When I capo my mini it's usually the big E string that needs adjusting. I really don't like going past the 3rd fret on capo, but have on occasion. It's a short scale guitar.
