If you had to pick just one...
I was curious.....I see these threads over in the general forum.
One guitar forever.....what would you pick? |

I'd take a pre-war Martin D-45. Great to play and when I get too old to play, I can sell it for a very comfortable retirement.

Tough call. I have an ES-335 that I have owned for 48 years... seems like forever. For carbon fiber, I do like my Shorty. But, one guitar? For the rest of my days? (As close as it comes to "forever") I have a Taylor 814ce that plays great, sounds great, and is gorgeous (tobacco sunburst)... today, I'd likely go with that one. There is a new all mahogany due in on Tuesday... ask me later next week.

The Greven OOO John built for me last year. For me at least it's the perfect acoustic guitar. I doubt I'll ever play anything I like better. My kids will inherit it someday, but not yet.

Is this a carbon fiber question? Or in general?
In general: A Santa Cruz 000 1929 (or perhaps their Eric Skye 00) Carbon Fiber: A 2013 Lucky 13 (even though I have a CA GX)

Wood - Collings CJ
CF - I'd just keep the Shorty since I don't really have experience with other brands of CF.

A lot of CFs should pretty much last forever or maybe longer....by then might even "break in" a wee.

I have owned 6 high end Ovations, and currently own a 39 year old D-28, and a 18 year old Taylor 410 Rosewood dred, but my Rainsong H DR 1000 N2 would be my "One and Only" if such ridiculous restrictions were in place.
BTW; I'm trying a set of the Martin- Tony Rice Signature Strings. Very warm and mature sounding on my H DR

If I could only have on guitar, it would be my CA Vintage Performer (what CA called the Legacy back in 2006). The guitar just sounds so good (this is a CF guitar that I would be surprised if 1 in 1000 guitarists could tell that it wasn't made of wood in a blind listening test).
I recently decided it needed some tweaks, so sent it off to MacNichol to have some fretwork done (CA wasn't using SS frets when they built this guitar, so I had the first 12 frets replaced with SS). Also, got a setup and had the iBeam pickup repositioned (never liked how the iBeam portion of the iMix pickup system sounded). Just got it back and it's really a special guitar again. The best sounding guitar I've ever played was a Martin D-18GE. However, being a CF aficionado, I couldn't see having a wood guitar as my only guitar. I like the low maintenance aspect of CF too much. |

Quote:
If the OP had included "wood" in his question, then talking about wood makes sense. Maybe the OP can clarify his question. Maybe he did want wood addressed, although by including wood in the discussion, the possibilities are so endless that the discussion almost becomes meaningless, IMO, and so, even a bit boring. Discussing only carbon fiber, which this section is all about, the list is much more finite and I think the discussion could be much more interesting. |

If wood, my Taylor 714ce but if this is a CF question than my 12-fret Rainsong dreadnought with Black Ice top. In fact the Rainsong might get the nod as the one since it can go anywhere while my Taylor prefers just the right humidity to be it's best.
