As sdelsolray mentions above, going up the scale with the Zoom recorders brings lower self-noise as the primary benefit. Build quality goes up as well.

The H1 is at about the same level as the original H2.

H4 is a bit better for noise, adds multitracking and XLR input - but with limited headroom on the line input.

H2n improves the user interface, headroom, and self-noise over the H2.

H4n does about the same for the H4, but still limited headroom for line in.

H6/H5/H4nPro improve self-noise to about the performance of a decent consumer audio interface. The H5 and H6 have built-in pads so there's finally enough headroom for normal mixer tape outs. I'm not sure about headroom on the H4nPro.

As a USB mic, it's fine - the limitation with USB mics is that you can only use this one mic, cannot ever go to a 2-mic system and use this mic. Also, your monitoring options are limited - you can plug headphones to the mic, but any monitor speakers you want to use will still be using your computer's cheap onboard soundcard.

Hey Mike...

Do you have personal experience with this Yeti microphone? Would the Zoom HN4 pro be a better option? I think those only go for about 200 bucks or so. I am interested in hearing what Captain Jim thinks of his HN4 pro.

Cheers...

On any Mac you can create an "aggregate device" that combines just about any combination of inputs so it IS possible to record stereo with two USB mics.
