Another string question
I know what your saying....not another string question
But could really use some of your great advice and wisdom please. I have a D,Angelico Excel EXL-1 with a Kent Armstrong mini-humbucker. I'm getting into the old western swing style music and curious as to what string do think will give me the best tone for that style music. Right now it still has the D,Angelico 12-52 strings on it. There OK, but seem alittle bright and alot of string noise. Really looking forward to everyone's replies. Thanks Bill |

Martin Monel MM13's - about as period-correct as you're going to get...

Pony Express delivered the martin monel strings today. Have everything strung up, but not sure if I like them yet. Seem alittle bright and not real balanced. The high E and B strings are alot louder than the rest when strumming or picking.
I will try them for a few more days and see if they settle in. Have a great weekend Bill |

Play them about an hour a day and let us know in a week what you think...

Hey Steve. Well played on the monels for a week or so and I am sad to say that I just cant bond with them. Just not a good fit for this particular guitar and pickup. Dont balance well (at least to my ears)
So the string quest is on going. Thanks Bill |

I put an $8 set of monels on a 51 epi century with NY pickup. Its truly awful. But the strings sound great acoustically. Just really bad with that pickup. I have a set of what i think are cleartones on my silvertone kay with added floating goldfoil, a lollar i think. The cleartones if thats what they are sound good amplified.

Try Thomastik Infeld Jazz Swingers flatwounds. Should do the trick. Definitely not brite and very smooth.

Adjust your pickup height and play them about 6 months
