Here is my first show and tell post from a couple of years ago and a song that gets a lot of play in our house. Cold Rain and Snow.

Love it. I was just playing that this morning, not nearly this well.

Hey, what's up with your son's new guitar?

I've been playing around with this one for a while. Decided to take a shot at recording it this morning. I've never been comfortable playing lead over these changes, but I took a shot.

Edit: this sounded one way (not too bad) on the headphones I recorded and mixed it with, similarly decent with a set of Apple Airbuds Pro, and absolutely beyond HORRIBLE on a little Bose Soundlink Bluetooth speaker. My wife wanted to hear it - she has to hear me recording one track at a time, so sometimes she's interested in what the finished product sounds like. I played it for her on the Bose and my God, I almost came on here and deleted the post. But then I listened to the first minute or so on headphones again, and back to sorta OK. I guess I'm learning a little about my limits as a sound engineer. I know in the old days, the engineers and mixers used to make sure a song would sound good on a transistor radio. I don't know how to do that - this would sound quite terrible on a transistor radio, which I guess the SoundLink is sort of a modern equivalent of.

The mix sounds just fine on my budget headphones, Ray. Nice job, I think the solo is great, playing the changes like Jerry

Thanks for keeping the thread alive!

Default Peggy O

Here’s another cover of a cover. In learning this I found a version from the second time they ever played it, in 1973. At one point Jerry is teaching Keith the changes out loud during the performance.

This song was kind of mellow and I didn’t really love hearing it in concert, but as time goes on I find myself appreciating it more and more.

Nice one Bob, nice solo in the middle too. I love when they did old English sounding ballads like Peggy-O and Jack-a-Roe. I play both of them from time to time, but I honestly can’t do a thing with em. I also do em as the old folk ballads they are, but the Dead did really nice electric versions of both back in the day. They played Peggy-O at my second show (1/22/78) and Jerry’s voice was really hoarse, which kind of enhanced the vocal on that song, and he played a wonderful lead section on it. I also remember some of those ‘77 Jack-a-Roe’s where Bobby would start it up with this incredibly funky little rhythm figures that would make you think ANYthing but an old English ballad was coming....

Great version Bob. My teenaged nephew and two nieces know this entire song word for word because my brother sang it as a lullaby for them when they were little. If I start playing it everyone sings along, all the way to the end.

I didn't appreciate this song live as I was more interested in the higher energy ones but I appreciate it much more now. A beautiful song.

Thanks Joe! I always headed for the beer counter during this song or it’s counterpart, the dirge like version of Friend of the Devil

It must be a great sing along!

Best version the Dead ever did. Performances like this is why I went to so many Dead shows.

This one, from back in the "playing with other people" days, is a JGB cover so I'm going with it.

A Jimmy Cliff song from the 1972 movie "The Harder they Come", "Sitting in Limbo" is a plaintive yet beautifully simple song with a lot of C to F.

When I brought it to the open mic, I was surprised how many people(including in the band) did not know it at all, and not just people who were not alive in 1972!
