Hey Jim, I know! We have to correct that and do some pickin' together.

Question for everyone on piano:
Short of having a Steinway, which wouldn't be a good fit for my little farm house, what are the alternatives for smaller sized pianos that still can sound like one? Are there any?

Sitar. I have a nice sitar and took a lesson and have a lot of instructional material. Still looking for a local sitar teacher. Others find this instrument unpleasant or a 60's fad but I am in love with the sound, the instrument, and the music. I know the very basics but want to continue and learn more.

I actually wanted to learn the piano in the beginning. But I couldn't afford one, and had no place to put it anyway. So I bought a guitar instead.

I think I could be a good drummer, though. Had I but world enough and time.

Piano. Seems natural for many of us as we enjoy things with strings. Pianos are sort of common in quite a few venues. How cool to pull up a seat and treat folks to spontaneous music.

I have been offered at least 3 pianos over the years, but placement would be an issue.

Good question - answer almost everything!

I was a drummer once, mentored by Charlie Watts (yup that one) and praised by Ginger Baker. (in my fevered brain I'm still a drummer).

In the mid '70s on I had to learn mandolin and Dobro, (no Adam Steffey or Mike Aldridge but I got away with it). Still got my Weissenborn too.

As a callow youth my mum offered me piano lessons. I said I preferred to play football .. (I NEVER played football!)

I had a girlfriend (once) who was learning to play the flute. I would pinch it from her and play better than her (until I got dizzy!) I didn't know what I was doing but it sounded cool to me.

I've always liked New Orleans jazz so would have liked to play clarinet.

I got a couple of 'lectric basses to record a solo album in '99 and then played it with a "sort of" bluegrass band. I really liked playing it but found it challenging when singing. I'd love to play double bass, but only as long as someone else carries it!

From experimenting over the years, I believe I could play the other instruments that interest me. If I worked at it. I just keep being drawn to the guitar and that takes my efforts.

+1 same for me. These two that I wish I would have stuck with as a kid. I regret growing up playing too much video games and not listening to my parents when they told me to practice.

Pedal steel guitar. A good player could work four nights a week in my area.

Violin/viola. Not bluegrass fiddle music, but more accompaniment. I tried to get started in that direction with a mandolin, but that didn't take.

No room for a piano.

I picked up a Yamaha P-125 last year. Full size with 88 weighted keys. Affordable and sounds great!

It would probably be piano for me too, I mean really learn the instrument. I can play some tunes convincingly, but that's all just rote/repetition. Transposing keys, etc.? Way over my head.

Regarding size/space limitations, I sat down to plunk on something at Costco a few years ago and it played/sounded great. It had three very noticeable advancements that I liked a lot, making it MUCH more piano-like.
- Realistic sustain pedal with decay
- Weighted keys
- Velocity sensitive keys

would love to be able to play Drums: admired Buddy Rich and then Ginger Baker and Neil Peart as i grew, very powerful instrument. although i admired both Buddy and Ginger I still feel like Neil peart was the greatest ever and made the drums very lyrical and his drumming was "songwriting"

started playing Tuba when i was 8...the most unsexy instrument next to the oboe switched to classical guitar 2 years later....cant sing with a tuba in your mouth
