Tragically uneducated question -
I try to use the Search function as much as possible - but, this is a specific New-new-newby question . . .
I am dutifully making my way through the beginner chord rituals and expect to be able to add them to songs shortly . . . But, I love having the guitar in my hands and am single note picking a few songs to both read a little music and actually be able to "play" a song (it is to me anyway . . ). So, one of my favorite blues ballads of all time is "When Sunny Gets Blue" - covered by many great artists over the decades. I am able to now play it as single notes from memory and enjoy it, but want to at least end it with an appropriate chord. Since the final note is D, what is the corresponding "sounds good" chord? is it the C chord noted above that D in the sheet music excerpt below? Any input appreciated . . . |

Just use chord as shown in last measure.

Yep - like Rick said, use that Cmaj6/9 chord... the D note is the "9" in this instance...
GREAT song, by the way, but I've never seen it in the key of C; usually in Ebmaj...

The arrangement in Post # 1 ends with a C sharp chord.

Looks like Cmaj6/9 to me...the root in the diagram is a C.

You're right! The tiny 6/9 looked like a # in the image. Sorry.
So, I would say whatever CEGAD arpeggio the player wants to finish up with.

The C6/9 given is the best (IMO), but two alternatives could be:
C(add9) = x-3-2-0-3-0 If you want the D on top: x-3-2-0-3-x C(maj9) = x-3-5-4-3-0 If you want the D on top, omit the 5th: x-3-2-4-3-x Or maybe 8-10-x-9-0-10
