I'm in an electric band, and I use a handful of different guitars in that format. I'll use one for awhile and then switch to another for a few weeks - no reason behind it, it's just what I like to do. I use the same amp with all of them. However, I also have several other electrics and amps that only get used at home - so the answer is yes, you can have lots of fun burning electrons at home. The places you can go with an electric - especially if you add a pedal or two - are almost limitless and are well worth exploring.
