Yup. Guitar is fun. Recently picked up a Soldano pedal and rekindled my electric playing.

Recently finalized the details on a new classical from Brian Itzkin who sometimes posts here.

635mm scale, 50m at the nut
Spruce over African Blackwood
Rodgers Tuners
Malagasy (madagascan) ebony fretboard and headplate

Collaborating with Brian has been a great experience. Other than me setting the scale length and neck width to help with my arthritic thumb and picking out the tuners, I've left everything else up to Brian. I just said "low-bling, best materials, darker aesthetic palate, and do what you think will sound great and look cool".

Looking forward to a late spring delivery.

Unfortunately, Brook just informed me that, due to some ongoing vision problems, he does not feel comfortable doing my build. Brook had already ceased taking new orders about a year ago. I wish him the best with his health, and wanted to say that he has been a pleasure to work with.

Here’s the right year!

Shockingly, to me, I have taken a commission to be delivered in sometime around April. I have tried to retire from commissioned work, but discovered that I miss interacting directly with customers. The skill involved in identifying the customer’s true desire and the the path to achieve the end is hard won and brings me a lot of joy, as it turns out.

I guess this one will be done first. Shipping delayed slightly since the builder and I are going on vacation.

Purdy! Well, as long as we’re talking about electrics, here’s an electric Nik Huber is making for me. Solid Brazilian rosewood neck (they feel amazing).

This is what it’ll look like when it’s done.

Sam that looks awesome! What a cool shade of green and underlying figure.

Thanks. It's his emerald green color. This guitar is basically my attempt at getting the Les Paul tone in a more ergonomic package. I find that the short horn/single cut shape isn't very short guy friendly. This guitar shape shortens the first position reach, allows the neck angle to be closer to 45 degrees, and can hang in that Strat sweet spot height. Going with a flat (and bent) top is a tad cheaper than a carved top and could save at least a pound of weight.

Good thinking! I wish this guitar was around back when I considered a Les Paul (and settled for a re-issue Firebird instead)

I'm a little surprised there aren't more guitars like this. The PRS 594 is probably the closest stock guitar out there at the moment. Probably would have ordered one if they offered a 12" radius.

That is simply stunning. I am lucky enough to have a Krautster II, which just blows all other guitars I own out the water (and that includes custom Shop Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, Rickenbacker...) They are simply the best necks... as American's say, 'period'
