Today (My Angel) Teri visited us to see the rosette and to debate the size and location of the angel and wings. Tim put the raw woods through the Grizzly sander. Teri's first touch of the rosette was made.

Before Tim cut the angels on the CNC machine he glued the piano keys from Teri's grandpa's piano to a sheet of Masonite. He clamped them together until the glue dried.

The CNC machine cut the angel and the wings in sizes Tim and Teri agreed on. Here you can see the machine working up close. (Sorry - no action shots here.)

To lesson the tension of separating the ivory keys from the Masonite Tim gives both a bath in the hot pot

At this point we will stand still. Teri will return to the shop on Friday for a quick personal review and final decisions will be made so Tim can continue the build process.

Hint: Mary will take McJam donations of any kind any time of the year. Thanks, Teri!

Teri stopped by to evaluate a few details that were originally choses and debated. Tuners are gold so fret wire color is changed from silver to gold. The size of Angel is suitable. We are on target on the wings. Tim explained the safety purpose of the buttress braces.

The Deacon shape was traced and a few measurements took place.

This top will have that good old time vintage sound.

Favorite moments of the day:
1)Hearing from Rodger early this morning about his middle of the night wake up moment concerning a McKnight guitar. Ever wonder why we all have the occasional guitar nightmares?
2) Seeing the embroidered bell bottoms my hippie girlfriend wore today. I love it.

Your guitar is coming along fabulously Teri!!

My nightmare was that I was playing Tim's latest guitar. Incredible inlays, vintage woods, great sound. But, what else is new?

I asked Tim how much it was and he wouldn't tell me. When I got done playing, I went to put it back in the case, but front first, and the neck snapped off. I woke up with a start and cold sweats. What a nightmare.

It's just a dream.... just a dream... just a dream.

Rodger has terrible nightmares about Teri's guitar. I'll keep the neck in place even if I have to hand it to her wrapped in hot pick duct tape.

Back to work. It's time to make the rosette! The angel wings are ready to be glued into place. Teri stopped by last week to approve the placement so we are good to go.

It's fun to watch the negative of the sound hole. It makes the guitar top look like a guitar will follow.

When this happens to spec guitars at our house I call these desk coasters for my McKnight coffee cup.

Tim traced the box so he could cut out and create the top.

The deflector weight helps Tim know how thin he needs to go for the player's touch. Teri is a soft player today. If she becomes a rock and roll star we will need to make guitar #2. I'll put that on my "to-do" list for the future.

The final picture today is of Tim measuring the placement of the pyramid bridge. He will tinker around the rest of the day in the shop making different bridge plans ahead for future use on this and for other guitars. I say making bridge patterns. We all can say he is making saw dust.

Looking good. Such a nice gift she’s having made for her sister. We should all be lucky enough to have a sister like her.

I agree! We all need to adopt a sister like her.

This guitar is for herself and she already owns the McKnight Aquarius guitar, but bought a BRW guitar for her sister at the McJam.

Default Over the Moon!

I am already over the moon. The ivory from my grandfather’s old piano is so special and brings back sentimental memories. He was the greatest musician. The ivory appears a little righter as well. It is looking so nice on the rosette! Can’t wait to see the neck when it is completed as well.

Thanks guys!

It's groove time. Or as Teri says, "Groovy." This is where Tim marks where to cut divots from the box so his top braces marry accurately to it.

While Tim works I grab this shot as an ad for Bob Singer who owned the Memphis Guitar show. Though the Memphis guitar show no longer exists the t-shirts live on. Bob donated shirts for the McJam a few years in a row. We made some great life long friends through that show. McJam donations are always appreciated.

*** Attn: Steve Kinniard ***

Tim hand sands and shapes the braces with the wood chisel. It might not look like much but it is fun to go back and look at scraps when the guitar is completed. These go into the "McKnight guitar in-a-bag."

Tim and I put our personal touch to the inside of the top to let people know in 100 years from now that we were a small mom and pop shop who kept the business on the friendly side.

Once the top is sign Tim sprays the inside of the back. This is the time we can decide to sneak a little something special inside the box that no other guitar in the world will have, but you don't get to see that until it is all said and done.

As Tim doesn't share the inner top bracing we will have to wait until it is complete. I plan to get pictures as the top is going in place. That's when I can get more pictures out.

Until then, folks.

I enjoy following the McKnight builds…. you folks, (Mary), really know how to document the entire process. This is going to be another spectacular guitar from the McKnight team!
