I have one set of components in my office/den, including the speakers that m Dad bought me in 1975. Mt desktop goes thrgh it, but I recently replaced the excellent Yamaha Tuner with a DAB tuner.
Downstairs - in the lounge - Marantz separates and old British made speakers. |

I don't have any components left from my college days, although I have plenty of vintage ones now.
Back then (1969-72) I had an AR-15 turntable, Scott tube amp (50 watts RMS), EV speakers with 12" woofers, and a Sony reel to reel deck. Would love to have the Scott and EV speakers today, along with my old vinyl collection. Thankfully if you watch Craigslist, there are good deals to be had on components from that era. IMO, modern systems with left and right satellite speakers, and a subwoofer just aren't the same, if you want that classic rock sound.

Circa 1976 ... McIntosh tube amp and tube receiver, Polk Audio speakers, Klipsh Heresy speakers, Nakamichi reel to reel, Nakamichi cassette player, Bang and Olufsen turntable with a Grado cartridge. And a graphic equalizer (can't remember who made it now!).
I have a later Kenwood receiver, CD Player, JVC cassette deck, and the same Polk Audio speakers in my man cave. |

Mine is repurposed:
I hung my cabinet speakers from the rafters and I have my JVC receiver on my bench so I can plup in and play my iTunes and MP3 library in my basement workshop. It's awesome - I'm so glad I saved it.

It's funny: Sometimes your little dreams just kind of bounce around in the back of your head until you forget about them. Twenty-five years after my stereo dream got started I stumbled upon the opportunity to fulfill it. I wrote about it HERE.

Back in the day, I had a Carver m500t magnetic field amp that cranked out 250 watts/ch without breaking a sweat. Put that together with a pair of Celestion SL6 speakers, a Rotel RC 879 preamp, a Technics tuner, and a humongous Akai open-reel tape deck. That stuff served well for a couple of decades, with the exception of the Akai, which died of advanced age.
These days, it's a Naim Supernait integrated amp, a Rega Apollo CD player, a REL powered subwoofer, a Dune HD Smart D1 media server, and a pair of stunningly good Fidelity Acoustic speakers. I don't do vinyl any more, as I haven't the space for the turntable or the albums themselves. All good, and the days are always full of music.

Akai integrated amp.
Pioneer tuner. Technics turntable. (Also a backup Pioneer turntable.) Akai 10" reel-to-reel tape deck. Pioneer 7" reel-to-reel tape deck. Various cassette decks, I can't remember the brand that served me the best, likely Akai. Various speakers. Sennheiser headphones. (Also Koss and others but Sennheiser were the best by far.) I truly miss this kind of listening. Now all I have is my laptop and near field studio monitors, and a small Denon bookshelf system. |

Does anyone remember those linear tracking turntables with the laser "track finder?" Was pretty cool technology at the time. And worked pretty accurately...

I still have a B&O RX turntable, which I've owned for the best part of 30 years. It's a little the worse for wear, really needs a new cartridge (virtually unobtainable at any reasonable price), and the dust cover hinges are broken (a common problem for this model). I just can't bring myself to junk it, but I really should.

I do also have a pair of Magnepan SMGa speakers, which, one day, will be pressed back into service. They used to be driven by a NAD 3020, and the aforementioned B&O turntable, which was a pretty sweet combination.

Don't be afraid to call or email them if you have any questions, they're very knowledgeable and helpful. Service can be a little slow, they are a small operation and very good at what they do, worth the wait.
