Default Tiger Myrtle Build

Its been a long while since I've posted any of my work here on the AGF and so I thought I would share a bit. I've got a Tiger Myrtle guitar in progress that should be heading to Trevor at TAMCO. It will likely be a couple months before its done as I'm currently waiting for delivery of some high quality Ebony fretboards. I also have a couple other builds for some customers about halfway through the build process and will post some progress pictures of those builds in another week or so (I'll just add to this thread).

Default Tiger Myrtle Build

Great lookin tiger myrtle! It really looks like a tigers stripes. It's gonna be a stunning guitar Simon. I like the little squares by the bevel. Little details like that make a guitar for me.

Beautiful work, Simon! How does this wood differ from rosewood tonally? Love that back and headstock. Keep the pic's coming and congrats to you and Trevor. Really looking forward to 2014!!

The Tiger Myrtle is an Australian Tonewood. Apparently, it is quite rare and highly valued by woodworkers over there. Tonally, the Tiger Myrtle has less sustain than Rosewood. In terms of dampening, I'd say its in between Rosewood and Mahogany but closer to Rosewood. I built an Adirondack Spruce / Tiger Myrtle guitar a few years ago and was incredibly happy with the sound -- a really nice blend of warmth and clarity.

Simon, whether it's the old body shape or the current incarnation, your design choices have always hit the spot with me; I think yours are some of the most elegant guitars going around.
