[ Question ] Fairbanks F-35 vs F-45
Does anyone know the differences between Fairbanks F-35 and F-45?
I know the differences between Gibson models, such as some cosmetic differences, and bracing angle, but it's hard to find information about the differences between Fairbanks models. Also, is 1930s and 40s' Gibson "Banner" J-45 closer to J-35 or J-45? Thanks! |

The F35 is based on a 1939 J35 owned by Paul Geremia. Not sure on the F45 but I think it is based on a 40`s j45.

I have a Fairbanks F-35 and true to the original J-35s, it has a somewhat more dry, dynamic, fundamental tone than I’ve ever heard from a J-45, though I admittedly haven’t played many vintage examples.
It is sweet like a good J-45 when played softly but can get really loud and crisp when played aggressively, not unlike a good Advanced Jumbo. Couldn’t hurt to reach out to Dale — he’s a super nice guy. You could also check with The Music Emporium, who have carried multiple examples of both of those Fairbanks models. |

I thought Gibson did a nice burst until I saw a Fairbanks burst (i think a 45) here. Major gas attack for days after that....
