All Maple Guitar?
There are all Mahogany guitars, all Walnut and Koa, but what about Maple? I haven't heard of an all Maple guitar, although maple is used extensively as a top wood on electrics.
Will the wise members of the forum shed some light on this dilemma? P.S. Maple would make for a gorgeous top, why is it not used on acoustics? |

Probably cos Maple is a really dense hard and heavy wood.
As such it would be a heavier guitar?

Exactly! It would also be really hard to make as the wood is so dense

I've got one of these, a Fender "La Brea". Made in Korea, maybe early eighties (?)
I know Fender acoustics are not well regarded around here, but it is a surprisingly good guitar. It was left to me about 3 years ago by a very dear departed friend. It's nicely set-up, plays well, probably all laminate, finished in a nice durable poly. |

Oh yeah, I've got a one-off Telebaster (sic) with a lovely quilted maple top. Sorry no pic.

And it makes me wonder that if the top was so dense that might reduce volume and projection...

They have a niche acoustic tone, though, that I can best characterize as "crystalline ". If you open your ears to it, it has its place. Not most players' cup of tea, though. Last edited by Yggdrasil; 08-19-2014 at 08:22 AM. |

My Heritage 575 is all solid maple...has a pleasant, somewhat mellow tone unplugged--but not very loud. It's very good about feedback plugged in, much less than on similar sized spruce tops I've played--but it lacks their acoustic punch.

Regal made many of their pre-war 0- and parlor size models in all maple woods. They make sweet blues guitars with lots of headroom for players with a more aggressive attact.
