Epiphone Caballero FT-30 1960?
Morning folks!
Just got me this little guy last night at a goodwill auction. I think it's in pretty shape (from photos) but I will be able to judge in a week. Always wanted a B-15 or B-25 but these little guys are just like the L0 which has been on my gas list too. I have done some interweb browsing but not a solid answer on serial numbers? Also, this guy has a super dark finish to it and I know they made a "natural" but were there any other variations cause she's got quite the tan. Any recommended upgrades? Rosewood bridge and adjustable saddle it looks like... don't know any thing about specs other than made side by side and just like Gibson L0. Not sure if tuners are original...? Thanks all! I will from time to time check out those Goodwill auctions. I only bid though when there is something hard to get up for grabs such as a Kalamazoo-made Gibson violin (not one of the imports) or something like a script logo Guild. It is scary what guitars can go for on that site particularly considering condition is always a crap shoot.
Congrats on the little Epi. Supposedly the Caballeros were available in 1959 but I have never seen one earlier than 1960. As a bonus you do not have to deal with those nasty plastic bridges Gibson started slapping on guitars in 1962. As you suspect, the tuners do not appear to be original (it is not easy to see them clearly in the photo). A 1960 would have had the enclosed Kluson strip tuners with plastic buttons. Only modification I would recommend is changing out the bridge plate. If the Epi follows the LG-0 example, the bridge plate will be made of spruce. I would swap it out for a maple one.

At the Gibson Forums there is an Epiphone section, with an Epiphone Acoustic section. Get it and get some pictures and serial number up there and them guys will tell you everything.

They're a nice little guitar... I owned one years ago and loved the sound.
But the fretboard for me was kind of cramped once I got past the 3rd fret.

Thanks Zombie, you are right...they are always a crap shoot but I have an ACE in the hole with an email for for info I sent to customer service and they have a return policy so if that neck is bowed or warped, I am going to get my money back. If all is as they say, I think I might fix it up and sell it. They are collectable. Unless I don't fall for it b/c I am such a sucker for a new gheeetar!
