Default Thinking About Buying A Guild JF65-12

I found a local dealer selling a used 1998 Guild JF65-12 for about $2k.

I have a few questions about these before pulling the trigger.

It appears to be in mint condition with no cracks or repairs. Someone did install a pickup on it and it has the original case.

Is there anything I need to watch for with these guitars? I have read about some needing expensive neck resets. If it needs a reset, what does that typically cost?

Is $2k reasonable?

Are there more sought out years/models of these Guild 12 strings I should seek out instead?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Since no one has replied yet, I will give you my two cents:

Guild model names are variable. That guitar is likely very similar, if not the same, to some with a different model number. The best thing, IMO, is to do a search of the model number at "Lets Talk Guild" Lots of Guild knowledge over there.

My own impression, FWIW, is that each era of Guild has its own fans, so you can get perhaps a little consensus about time periods, but not much.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm thinking about checking that forum out, thank you.

That is a fair price for a Jumbo Guild in excellent condition.
Yes, be sure to have the neck checked out to be sure it is straight.

A neck re-set will run about $500.00.
Even with that added in, the guitar may be worth it.

The prices of used Guild guitars are going up due to the high prices of New Guilds.

That appears to be about the going price:

Right. The JF65-12 is just a renamed F412, which is a 17" lower bout jumbo with an arched, braceless lam maple back. 12-strings don't get much better.

If it's truly mint condition, that $2K is pretty reasonable.

You can lay a straight edge along the fretboard, pointed toward the bridge. If it hits the top of the bridge, you're good. If it hits well below the top of the bridge, a neck reset is probably in order. Also, you don't want the saddle to be too low; you want the strings over the saddle to have a good break angle.

They're all good. 1998 is Westerly, I believe. Lots of folks swear by those, but Corona, Tacoma, New Hartford.... they're all good!

Thanks for the information. I may go back and look at it again on Wed., and maybe she'll go home with me.

I have an es-335 that I need to sell first, unless I can work an even trade with them for it. lol
