On a different note I did boil a set of strings once and they returned to "new".

At least buy a string cleaner liquid which isn't as oily/slippery as wd40.

I dont like those coated strings that live longer, so I use a string cleaner liquid after every few weeks and it works quite well and I get 3 to 4 times life from uncoated Daddarios or John Pearse.
