My youngest sister lost 100 lbs over about a year by dropping "the whites" out of her diet: sugar, pasta, breads, (anything with flour) white rice, milk.
I attended a real good continuing education lecture recently that showed time-synced comparison graphs of the increase in overweight Americans with the addition of fructose corn syrup into processed foods. One strategy is to restrict grocery store purchases to the perimeter of the store, buy only real food, nothing processed.

probably the worst (or should I say the "wurst") thing for me that I nevertheless love to eat is hot dogs... natural casing, 100% pork hot dogs with mustard and sauerkraut.
I don't eat them often but lord help me I do love 'em. Other than that I eat mostly foods that are good for me and I don't really miss eating garbage at all.....'cept hot dogs.
