Ah no … Ambygona (sp?) veneer on top and amber weave sides and back. In fact all of our Gigi’s this summer have been outside in the sun (except one) and I’ve yet to notice any heating of either the fretboard or the body

Am I not understanding your question correctly? I certainly can't speak for all makers as I've not played them all much less in the sun, but would imagine white or any other color than black would perform better for direct exposure in the sun. Last edited by steelvibe; 08-11-2021 at 02:00 PM. |

Maybe an Elvis Presley guitar cover would help.

Is warping a possibility?
I lost WAY TOO MANY vinyl LPs back in the day by leaving them in a hot car in the summer.

This thread keeps coming back, and every time I see it I’m sorely tempted to to post the very first reply that came to me the first time i saw the original post. But sometimes people do not appreciate my humor.
So I want to make it clear that my intention is NOT to minimize or poke fun at my respected “co-forumer” KarenB. So here goes: Is a frog’s butt watertight?

That N46 guy asks hard questions. I don't think I've ever taken a look. Hopefully someone on this thread can address the question.

The answer is "yes," and the legs taste like chicken.

This original question is actually related to the question of “ why is the sky blue? “. It deals with the physics of transmission and absorption of energy. Probably more important is that I would not play in the hot sun unless someone was paying me big money. Then I might wear gloves. Otherwise I’m sitting under a tree sipping a cold one

EvanB, El Capitan and KarenB: We concur, the answer in both situations is a resounding ‘yes’. The pros do outweigh the cons though, we can always deploy shelter from direct sunlight. Think big umbrella-cheap. The CF instruments will in all likelihood outlast styrofoam. I own 2, a journey-overhead and a rainsong. Will prob pass them on as heirlooms, and they sound great. The little journey even has a truss rod. We are fortunate to live in such an advanced age.

I've not experienced it. I quit before the guitar does - it gets mighty warm, slick with sweat from my arm, but still performs perfectly.
