Default "Galapagos" - New original

Hi friends,

It's been awhile since I shared anything here. Most of the music I've written lately has been snippets for guitar demos. This time I decided to put together a whole song, and to share it here first with my AGF friends. Hope you like it! DADGAD tuning, Santa Cruz OM/PW. Thanks for listening!

Man! Larry!

That was really nice! Very cool, bluesy, full of dynamics, the full range of that SCGC OM/PW!

That guitar sounds very good in DADGAD!

Are you using a flat pick and doing hybrid picking or when you strum the strings, are you using your thumb and index finger nails to hit the strings? I can't really tell for sure. It looks like the latter, but ???

I like the sound of those two large diaphragm condenser mics (Audio Technica??) in stereo. They do a nice job on both the frequency response and transient response. Good sound! I love your video background, too!

It's nice to see you on video!

- Glenn

Hi Glenn, thank you so much! The OM/PW has such a satisfying bass to it, even this one with mahogany back and sides, that it does work very well in DADGAD. And it is a good strummer as well.

I am hybrid picking, with a flat pick that I bought recently from our own Scott with Charmed Life Picks. Great pick!

The mics are Audio Technica 4033a. Doug Young here had recommended them as good quality and versatile mics for a reasonable price. I've been happy with them so far.

Thanks so much, Glenn, for the nice comments. I very much appreciate them and you!

Ah, cool!

I have some of Scott's Charmed Life picks! I love them!

And I do know the Audio Technica AT-4033 mic. I bought one for my son, Ian, many years ago as a gift and he still uses it today. A really good cardioid large diaphragm condenser mic for a very reasonable cost. I also have a pair of AT-4050 mics, which are multi-pattern, but essentially the same condenser element, except two of them back-to-back.

I'm so glad to see you doing well!

- Glenn

Hi Fred. Thank you!! I appreciate your comments and I am doing reasonably well. I hope the same is true for you and your family. Just listened to "A Hymn for Change" in your signature. Such a beautiful composition and playing!

Oh, thank you, Larry! That tune is the first in what I've called the "COVID Trilogy".....If interested, the two others......."For a Better Tomorrow".......and finally "Sweet Something"....representing our landing on "the other side" of COVID and a return to "normal". Same guitar (Flammang 000, 12 fret), same tuning, so they are "sibling" pieces meant to come together.
Thanks...once again really enjoyed your tune....no doubt influenced from your travels there, I would guess?

Fred, just listened to your trilogy and as always, I thoroughly enjoyed your music. Great sentiment for our times, thanks!!

And yes, during parts of this song, I picture in my mind a very cool octopus that I had the wonderful opportunity to observe and photograph in the Galapagos. Magical place, and I feel so fortunate that, as a biology nut, I was able to see it when I was still physically able to participate. Thanks again for your nice words!

Thank you, Larry! Glad you enjoyed Trilogy and thanks for taking a listen.
Fabulous picture!! What a creature!! Congrats on visiting there....I never did, but my wife is a biologist and had the experience with colleagues some years ago. As you say, magical and really life altering.
All the best,
Fred
