Help! How old is my guitar?
My dad recently gave me his old guitar and I’m wondering how old it is! It’s a Giannini, the label inside it says: Tranquillo Giannini N.o 109, C.G.C 61.196.119
My dad said he’s had it for more than fifty years and I’d love to see just how old it is! Can someone help me with that? Thank you! |

I'd say it's at least 50 years old.
Why not contact the company and see what they can tell you? http://www.gianniniguitars.com/contato/

According to most sources, the Giannini serial numbers and dating data have been lost. I'd guess the 61 in your number is the year. Some of the Gianninis are solid Brazilian rosewood, so look carefully at the inside and outside grain patterns. If there's a crack in the sides or the back, sometimes you can see that it's solid wood.
Giannini was founded in 1900. Tranquillo himself (founder) died in the 1950s. I used to have a real old solid Brazilian model. Great guitar. |

Does it look like this? Apparently it was made sometime in the '50s or '60s.

I'll say mid/late-60's - there are a couple for sale on eBay (and one that's WAY overpriced on Reverb ) from 1968-69, so considering your dad has had it for around 50 years we're probably in the ballpark...

Yes! It looks exactly like that save for the top part, instead of metal it's all wood
