Default Neil Young and Crazy Horse accoustic instruments

A free video from Concert Vault.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse "unplugged" doing Prime of Life from the 1994 Bridge Concert. Looks like maybe an internal mic employed on the 1968 D-45? And apparently a D-35 in the hands of Frank Sampedro, if that is in fact Poncho under all that hair.

Interesting, when Young switches to the D-28 for Change your mind, he has to tell the sound guys that it is louder than the 45. I wonder if that is the forward shifted, braces at work or just something in the electronics chain.

For him it's just another tool. Speaking of which, I don't see his 70's Taylor 12-strig Jumbo anywhere.

Wow, thanks for this! I'm a Neil head (check the name) and Sleeps with Angels is one of my favorite albums. Didn't know this existed. Definitely going to watch the whole thing.

I'm in Brooklyn too! Got no problem with it, ha.

I wonder if Neil still has that 12 string Taylor? Rust Never Sleeps was the first time I had ever heard of or seen a Taylor guitar. I would imagine that is the case with most people.

I love the story in Neil's book about how he found that that guitar at a shop in Florida. I am sure Neil did a lot to legitimize a new guitar company.

I have seen him playing the 12-String in recent years. Well relatively recent years. His solo sets during the 2008 tour had it on stage with his other acoustics. Doesn't he use it on Pocahontas on MTV Unplugged from 1993 or so?

I have wanted to cover Sedan Delivery with the band The Highland Shatners for ages! Thanks for reminding me. Accordion, bouzouki, guitar and mandolin. but it is right up the lead singer's alley. Should be interesting.

Saw neil solo a year or two ago in philly, and it was awesome. He had quite the selection of nice guitars. It was funny cuz the he switched between every other song or so and kept grabbing the wrong chord to plug in, so the sound guy had to keep coming out. It was a reoccurring joke through the night, apparently through the whole tour too. But he and his guitars sounded amazing. Thanks for sharing, look forward to it.

Yeah, Neil definitely played that Taylor 12-string during his solo show at Carnegie Hall back in 2014. He had his usual circle of acoustics set up as he always does for solo shows. Some of them seem to be only for decoration. During the show I leaned over to my Dad and said how he has a gorgeous j-200 that he never plays, and later during the show he was walking around trying to choose which guitar to play, pointed at the J-200 and said " I never play that one." Then he picked up a Martin, I'm sure.

I saw him play the J-200 with CSNY at MSG in 2002, on Harvest Moon.

I'm just happy that him and his band didn't decide to play acoustic sitting down, as if that style requires a seat if you're a rocker.
