Default GS Mini @ 1/2 Step Down

I've noticed that with many of the full-sized guitars I've owned/played, tuning 1/2 step down can take off some of the volume/articulation. However, with the GS Mini it seems to really maintain both the volume and articulation while putting out a very rich and complex sound.

For those of you who play a GS Mini, what has been your experience with lower/alternative tunings?

For reference, I play the standard model with sapele b/s.

I have a Mini hog and I've done drop D and it works great. Haven't tried anything else yet.
