Default Gluing the Pernambuco binding strips to the 5-ply purfling strips

Gluing together each set.

Not sure what's going on here, but it looked important so I included it anyways.

Bindings and purflings glued and clamped. Or is it a postmodern art piece Tim's preparing for an upcoming exhibition at the MMMA (Morral Museum of Modern Art)?

Gluing one side.

One side is clamped and ready for center strip and purflings.

A glimpse of what's to come.

Hi Cigarfan! It is pretty, but I can't take full credit for the purfling details. The owner had a say in this and it definitely took 4 hands to make it work out to look dignified.

Four hands in such a tiny space left no time or room for "during" pictures. It would have resembled more of a Curly, Mo, Larry episode.

Default Adding the Rosette

Basic outline is compassed on the soundboard.

Rosette area is routed. Outline of fretboard is drawn to show where to start the rosette (the area that will later be covered by the fretboard).

Gluing in the sections of the rosette.

That's fine Herringbone in the center with identical multi-ply rings of Ebony/Maple/African Blackwood/Maple.

Finished, with the soundhole binding to come later....

Wow! Although sometimes I find herringbone to be a bit too traditional at times, I like how the slight tint of the blackwood purfling adds a certain "raciness" to the rosette. I love it!

Thank you, Neil.

The Ebony/Maple/ABW lines are meant to reference the 5-ply body bindings. The only difference is the body bindings alternate with Pernambuco and the rosette alternates with Maple. I wanted the rosette and bindings to have a very cohesive and bold, yet understated look. A nod to tradition, but something a little different as well. The dose of black color in the rosette will also reference other elements in the guitar, as time will tell.

I understand. It ties in well. I was surprised that you chose herringbone but I think the pattern benefits from the differing contrasts and hues of the purfling.

Thank you, Joel. I expect I'll have some pictures of a closed box any day. Tim finished voicing and bracing the top on Friday and planned to glue it to the rim on Saturday. I'll keep the pictures coming as I receive them. He's on a roll right now from what I can see, so expect regular updates! He's really just getting started with the interesting parts.
