I’m a perpetual beginner and just today started on Truefire. Going to work on David Hamburgers 30 essential fingerstyle riffs for beginners. That should keep me busy for the next three years. I need to make some progress during this down time!

Default Stevie Coyle Skypes.

Stevie's name is often kicked about on this forum, especially for holding court at Mighty Fine Guitars. Here's a link, a trailhead, to videos of his playing.

That was the first thing Idid where finger style really began to stick. He serves it up in such bite sized pieces, the early lessons in those 30 are REALLY easy. But the thing that grabbed me was that even some of the early, really easy lessons, sounds recognizably like blues to me. Once I got through the first several lessons in that course, I knew I was gonna FINALLY stick with it. I’m playing considerably longer and more difficult things now, but I can still easily trace the building blocks from that course. I’ve stitched a few of those riffs onto longer stufff I’m doing now, either as intros or transitions between other things in the same key. That course grabbed me and pulled me in...

Have fun with it!

-Ray

Peter Green is a great Fingerstyle teacher and understands how to do the remote teaching stuff well.

Also, if you the patience to self instruct, I really like Nicola Mandorino
https://www.guitarnick.com/index.html

He has a ton of free material with tab, and super well recorded YouTube videos. to save some $$ I've stopped taking lessons, and switched over to using Nick's materials. For $5 (US) monthly you can sponsor him on Patreon and unlock a lot of materials. Nick has two great easy to follow on your own instructions book for Fingerstyle:

Check out Dorian Michaels at dorianmichaels.com, or email him specifically about lessons, at dm1[at]impulse.net. Dorian has been around for a while and can play and teach finger style in a very broad spectrum of genres.

Close, but it's Dorian Michael at dorianmichael.com/

Been a fan for some time and was able to see him live once a few years ago. Great guy and a great player.

Default Toby Walker

Toby keeps adding to his website regularly. He also gives Skype lessons.

In fact just about all of the finger style I have learned, I have learned from Toby!

Best,

Rick

If you're an acoustic roots/blues fan, +1 for David Hamburger's monthly course, the Fingerstyle Five. It's done via online video, with a new piece every month. It includes exercises and improv lessons, and a community forum to share your work and ask questions. Also includes a number of video lessons on fundamentals and theory, and all the pieces from previous months. It's not a substitute for in-person, but it works better for me than anything else I've tried. You can also go back and work on older material any time. The amount is modest enough that I don't feel too guilty if I spend a month mostly working on fingerstyle Christmas songs instead, but not so little that I blow it off. Feels like a really good value for what you get. Most importantly, it's a lot of fun.
