Default I accidentally bumped into a scoring gig the other day...

No, really. I was minding my own business and it just kind of walked up to me. More HERE.

Congratulations! Always nice to walk into some extra work.

What's the name of the production? I'd like to hear the music..plus I have a fascination with the Civil War era.

Great story. With the vertical array, do you aim above the sound hole in general? Perpendicular to the guitar or angled? Just curious about your experience. Could one do this setup with a Shure KSM 137 and an Audix SCX-25A without phase issues and the like?

Thanks, guys. The piece was the story of Lew Wallace, a Union general at the Battle of Shiloh, who went on to write the historical novel, Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ, upon which the movie was based. Interestingly, Stewart Copeland came into town the next weekend to debut his score for the 1925 silent film with the symphony orchestra. I missed the performance.

The mic array was placed up around the neck/body joint and about fourteen inches away. The 7" distance and 110' angle was chosen because that is the distance and angle used in the ORTF array. This is the exact inverse of the ORTF, with the mics facing inward.

Quite often I compose music for scores or play on albums and where I don't have clearance to post the material by the time I do the website write-up. This time I've got a link. The page for the production is HERE. The clips are a bit compressed.

Oh, ukejon, I added the mic placement info to the article per your suggestion.
