Default Thoughts on Seagull S6 classic

Seagull came out with a cool looking black S6 classic.

Tempting....

My only ... and I repeat "only" complaint ... was that I couldn't bond with the 1.8-inch nut width on the Classic. It was just too wide for me but I liked the overall sound and most importantly the general construction of the S6.

However the guitar you are looking at has the thinner 1.72-inch nut width, which would be somewhat OK for me.

Interesting looking Seagull. BTW, I still have the Seagull S6CW I bought back in 1998. It was the first acoustic guitar that cost me over $100.

There are no cons on the S6. That one looks super sharp as well.

Godin/Seagull. Some of the best values in the industry...if you’re looking at that level of instrument I wouldn’t hesitate.

My first guitar 20+ years ago was a Seagull...fond memories of that guitar...My wife had one at that time as well.

Best of luck

My S6 was my second acoustic, I got it when I started to take acoustic playing more seriously and it's also when I really start to love playing. I love the tone, wonderfully warm bass and over all woody, earthy tone. I still have mine, I'll never sell it.

Same here (2nd guitar/still have it). I keep it in my office on the wall so I can play any time I get the urge.

Default If I wanted a black guitar...

I'd buy carbon fiber.

thanks for all the feedback. I bought the seagull in black,
was going to get a johnny cash HPL, but this looks very sharp, made of real North American woods, made in canada.
If I do not like will sell it on forum.

A friend bought an S6 a while ago. I don't love its dry tone, but it's a fine guitar.

Needed a setup badly, which I did for him in exchange for a bottle of whiskey... Much improved!

Very cool, be sure to post some pictures, I had a regular S6 and it's Simon & Patrick brother, I love them and miss them, will eventually buy another keep it for good. I love the unique and pleasant sound, I had the S&P for over 10 years, regret selling it. The S6 I had for a year, I always intended on selling it, because it was a 'flip' but I miss it all the time, seriously.
But if it's new it will most likely have a very high action, you'll want a good setup!

That is a great workhorse guitar you have purchased!

Robert Godin has an engineering passion so the building process for Seagull guitars is a little different to other makes and very consistent. This is also why they can build for a good price. I love the wild cherry they grow (yes they own the forestry!) and make into laminate for the backs and sides. It does give a wonderful dry tone, like an old Eko or similar - and is incredibly stable. Your guitar won't sound like a Martin or a Gibson - it will sound like a Seagull, and that's no bad thing! There are a few blind comparisons on YouTube - and the Seagull is more often than not selected as the 'better' sounding guitar by the general public. It is only us guitar geeks who have our ears tuned to Martin and Gibson!!!!

The nut slots and saddle are likely to be on the high side unless your retailer has done a set-up. But the neck angle and fret work on the S6 guitars tends to be perfect, so a good set-up is straightforward to achieve.

I love my S6 with a spruce top - it is a bluegrass flatpicking banjo killer! A couple of my friends have the cedar topped versions and they are lovely as all-round guitars for many different playing styles.

Your have purchased a MUCH better option, in so many ways, than the HPL Martin in my opinion.

Enjoy your new guitar.
