For me it really varies. My latest favorite is Santana's latest album, "Africa Speaks":

˙˙˙

Unlike some of his albums in recent years, instead of a succession of famous guest vocalists he's only got one lead singer on this record, a woman named Buika. It's great stuff, and has the best, most fiery Santana guitar playing in decades.

Another great choice for "music to wash dishes by" is anything by the Texas Tornados:

˙˙˙

ˇAdiós Mexico!

While I have an infinite playlist of music that I love to listen to when working on chores, I'll close with this one, the immortal Professor Longhair:

˙˙˙

If you've never listened to Professor Longhair, you need to correct that. He's the greatest. "Crawfish Fiesta" is his masterpiece.

I mostly listen to music while in the car (which I am, a lot). Or in concerts or jams.

Agreed, Scott, except I'd probably put The Who on top of the list. For doing any housecleaning, I usually need to rock. Housecleaning and cooking... not my strong suits. Lol...

I don't usually play music while doing chores, although I'm fine with any one else enjoying it. When painting (walls) I like to play Mahler (1st and 5th symphonies are my favorites).

Kerbie, yeah, I hear ya. I especially love the Who live stuff, like LIVE AT LEEDS and that era.

Another one I forgot to mention was Van Halen. Man, those boys could rock. I think Eddie is the greatest living guitar player. I had the tremendous good fortune, Kerbie, to see them outdoors on their last tour. I went by myself and got third row in the pit. I was standing right in front of EVH, fifteen feet away, the whole night. An evening I will never forget. So add them in.

I'll give you Van Halen, but keep The Who.

I got to see The Who in a packed stadium, but not during the Keith Moon years. It was a great show.

I don’t do “chores”. I pay people to do them for me.
As far as I can tell, the house cleaner listens to Panic,
Twenty one pilots and Fall out boy.

The Gardner mostly listens to Bob Marley-especially
When he’s burning leaves and palm fronds. Guy does
A great job. They both do.

No music when doing things, even driving.

When I listen to music I just sit and give the music my full attention.

Background music annoys me, especially in stores, so I usually carry earplugs.

When I know I'll be working around the kitchen for awhile, I'll bring up the Avett Brothers on Spotify.

I'm glad to hear that a few of you are listening to classical music. I used to do that for a while exclusively.

Now I listen mainly to Americana. Doing dishes I find comfort in sad, poetic stories, like those told by Lucinda Williams, Jason Isbell or John Moreland.
