Default Update on the 45 and 42

Per finally received the narrow Green abalone strips for the 45 side and back trim. I appreciate Per's attention to this detail and look forward to seeing some more progress on this one.

The 42 MRW is shaping up nicely after some coats of Nitro.

And the Burst is still looking good.

Thanks Per!

Shouldn't be long now. They are all looking great. Maybe he's waiting on that Louvin Brothers wrap from Martin you specced out for your top...

Default 00-42 progress.

Really like the way the frets turned out regarding the rosette. It still shows nicely.
Can't wait to see the Bridge with the saddle and the nut installed and finally strung up!

Not pictures by Per but from a visitor to his shop. Here is a new D-28 w/ebony truss rod, strung up and in holding for further inspection for a few weeks before shipping out to the lucky customer.

Thanks for looking.

Default Three Marklund Customs, 00-42 + D-45S + OM-28

That OO-42 is really stunning! I admire Per's work, and I think he gets some fantastic looking Madagascar Rosewood! His ornamentation is really classically beautiful.

Thanks. He really nailed this one.

I love the handwork on all the pearl ornamentation that he did, but especially on the headstock and rosette.

And I would be remiss not to mention the nicely carved Pyramid bridge. I believe it's his first one in Ebony.

Real happy, and can't wait to see the OM next!

Because there should always be a picture, here's another one of the sunburst after some coats of nitro.

Default One down, two to go!

The 00-42 is strung up and ready to play.

And perhaps some video later on.

Thanks Per!

Killer! I really like the headstock stamp. I think he ended up ordering a smaller stamp for the paddleheads. That Madi is just soooo straight grained, I wonder if that and your OM came from the same tree. Mine had some lacquer sinkage on the back and he reshot a few coats.

Sorry to hear about the sink in. On the other hand, that back should look really nice when Per's done.

The headstock stamp looks the same to me. Hadn't heard about the smaller one.
But yes the stamp is well done.

The MRW is from different orders, so I'm not sure. The first batch included this 42 and your 28. The second order, which my OM was from, was different in that there was a lot more straight grained and less figure. All of it I've seen is about as good as it gets though.

Here are the two sets. The 00-42 back has some flame pattern going on on the lower bout. A sure sign of quarter sawn wood. The first batch were really dark with oxidation from sitting around for a long time at the wood dealers. Turned out lighter under finish than I thought it would.

The OM back is pretty much the poster child for straight grain quarter sawn MWR.

Video coming...

That MRW is unbelievably high quality, at least if appearances are anything to go by.

TBH I came within a femtosecond of ordering an OM from Per but bottled it because I already have some great guitars and I have no idea how his sound. It's absolutely clear to anyone with a pair of eyes that he is a fabulous woodworker, but I'm very keen to hear if he has got the tone down as well.

So, yes, please post a video!

Cheers,
Steve

Default Jonas Mattebo plays the 00-42

Steve, here you go. One week old.

Thanks Per!

P.S. Here's the rear shifted ebony truss D-28 from this batch played first.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCtuPk7pfeE

Looks and sounds awesome. All the tone I hoped for. As Tom Petty says The Waiting is the Hardest Part.
