Martin 000-15 Special
I absolutely have no plans of another guitar purchase right now.....but some guy local has a 000-15 special, spruce top, for a real good price. I've read whats already on the AGF which seems very few have any dealings with this guitar. I need to add I have a 000-18e retro already. Should I look into this, play it, etc. or simply be happy with the retro as this would not really add anything?

Can't hurt to try it. You don't know if it is or isn't adding anything, until you give it a shot. It may surprise you, and inspire new music. Bear in mind - this is coming from someone prone to enabling others to go and get what they want, since I do it, too

I have the 000-15m. It's the all solid mahogony version, and it sounds and plays very nicely. I'm sure that the spruce top will be brighter, but the 000 body is usually a nice fit for most folks. Sit down with it and see what you think.

I think you'll have two guitars that are too similar. Really nice guitars, yes, but I prefer a bit more diversity within my own herd.

Hi,
I played both a few years ago - the standard and the special 000-15m and went home with the standard, because i had a sprucetop guitar already at home. The 18 series 000 has more character than the 15 special in my view. If you already have a spruce topped guitar, which you really like, i would go for standard 15 000. But : every players taste is different :-) |

If you have the 000-18.. which I love by the way...
Why would you "need" the 000-15 ? But then again, need and Want are two different things |

A diversity of responses. I won't say for the sake of maintaining AGF ethics but the price is well below a grand.

I'll follow up my previous comment with one small addition:
You don't know what it will play/sound/feel like, until you have it in-hand. Best case scenario - you fall in love and take it home. Worst case scenario - it does nothing for you, but you're not left wondering "what if?" No harm in finding out, right?

Don't even look at it (am I allowed to say that on AGF?). Save the money for something that really grabs you by the throat. |

Of course you need it!! It's totally different from your 000-18. All guitars sound different. And if you don't buy it, the poor thing will be homeless!!

If it's a deal then SNAG it. If you decide you don't need or want it down the road, heck you prob won't lose anything. I do this all the time, if I find a great deal. Allows me to try and enjoy many guitars and other gear. |

To me the 000-15 special just seems like a more budget friendly 000-18.
But if you feel it gives you something different to your other guitar then thats up to you.
