Russ was called Koa guitar man back in the day. Someday we will pass it on to the next generation who will let us crash their party. For now we are having more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

We started a new client build a few days ago. MiniMac 12 fret, short scale, Honduran RW with a master grade Adi top.

Lovely work, Tim! I really like the idea of using the waist from the back on the peg head. Nicely done!

Very nice! Is this build for someone I might know from our annual gathering?

No, he’s never attended … yet.

Thank you @Treenewt. I like to waste as little materials as possible during a build. Sometimes there is even enough scrap material to make the rosette from too but not on this build.

The f-cut for the Caboose door guitar will give this guitar a little "edge" to remind all who had loved ones on those trains that living on the rails was not always smooth going.

We had a very productive day today. I have the rim of the Caboose about ready to accept linings. Most of the day was spent on the Honduran RW / Adi MiniMac. Here are some glimpses of the progress…

When I’m tired it’s not wise (for me) to work on guitars. I tend to do stupid stuff and you know what they say about fixing stupid? The picture below is what I discovered this morning. If you look closely at the ebony/maple purfling line on the left side of the wedge, it’s backwards. DUH!

So today I had to fix my stupid goof and rout out the goofed purfling line and install a new one … in the correct orientation this time. See it’s possible to fix stupid … even if it’s a day later.

I was always told, the difference between an amateur, and professional luthier was how they fix mistakes.
You sir, are a professional!!

Thank you @Zandit75. My father was a master cabinet maker and he told me the difference between a professional and an amateur is that the pro knows how to repair their mistakes and make them invisible

We just received one of our Nashville pro players guitars in for repair. Road life is as hard on musicians as it is on their gear and this guitar is proof as it suffered a broken top. This is the second pro player guitar of ours that has suffered a bus baggage accident and no blame needs cast as “stuff happens” on the road.

Bridge coming off with the use of my ultra hi tech clothes iron but shhhhhhh, don’t tell Mary. Just kidding I have my own iron in the shop just for those special occasions…

Next is ironing the fingerboard extension loose:

Then the neck joint gets steamed apart with the help of (our) hot plate and cappuccino maker. It’s puzzling how all of those cool kitchen gadgets end up in the shop. Shhhhhhh, I must plead the 5th.
