There is an interesting video on the bottom of this page discussing the Masterbilt series of instruments -

Interesting comments here. Maybe I should have looked more closely at the Epi. I thought about it.

Another vote for the Epiphone Masterbilt DR-500mce. I've owned the BG-40 and currently own the DR-500mce. There's no comparison.

Just found an AJ500RE on Reverb. I took a chance buying on line,
but wow, what a great guitar. I love the satin finish, the action, the responsiveness, the tone, the electrics, everything. My Martin and Gibson are both getting lonely.

I just fell into one of these AJ500M models and am tickled to pieces with it. It has an incredible sound that really makes most of the Bozeman AJs envious. It is an excellent guitar at any price. I had played one in a local store when they were still being produced, and had kicked myself around afterwards for not buying it before they stopped production.

The one thing that is a bit disappointing is that it is a long scale guitar, but that is not a deal breaker by any stretch, since the original AJ is long scale, but I look for and enjoy the rapid note decay associated with slope shoulder, short scale Gibsons. I love how this AJ500M plays and sounds.

Sounds like you might want to check out the new AJ-45 with the shorter scale, if you also like sunbursts.
