I admit that the grain is a bit slanted but I don't think that is so horrible. I also cannot see how it would affect the playability or sound of the guitar. I would also point out that it is the back so who would know? If the aesthetics of the back are important to you, I can understand how you might not like it. However if I liked the guitar, that slant would not bother me. In fact it is kinda cool and unique.

The one I have isn't too bad but it is a little off. I let it slide thinking to myself it's because it's China built but still. Maybe they're putting these together by candlelight. Can't see what they are doing. The one at L&M that I did see was totally out of wack. Not sure why it isn't done right.
I didn't realize you had seen more than one with the crooked back. That's surprising. Sounds like there might be a bad batch.

I did a search online and couldn't find other mentions of this. I wonder, like Dru, if there was a bad batch or even just a few that got through.

How disappointing.
It’s been my experience that the “inspired by Gibson“ or copies that Epiphone Does sometimes aren’t exactly “top shelf”. However that said, their own original stuff generally tends to be pretty nice.
It’s a small sample set, but that’s been my experience to date.
