I think the Boss AD-10 has everything the VE-8 has...just a "guitar only" unit...no vocal stuff.

Pretty sure the Play Acoustic is made by TC Helicon.

The Soulmate looks to me like the best "guitar only" unit. It has everything you could possibly want and the effects seem very well done. Only complaint Ive heard about it is that the looper pedals are in a weird spot, but that can be improved with some add on plastic pedal button extenders.

It it’s built like a tank, the parametric EQ works well along with the auto feedback killer. The looper is basic but functional.

I didn't vote because the only one I've used is the Play Acoustic. I "upgraded" from the TC Helicon Gxt vocal harmonizer to the Play Acoustic because of the guitar effects. Turns out the Play Acoustic is more complicated to use, due to having to get into the sub-menus to make any adjustments. So, essentially, I set it up once, make any tweaks during a sound check, then use the Play Acoustic with the guitar tones set for global.

The looper requires pressing two footswitches at the same time to arm it, so I don't use that when playing out.

I like the vocal harmonies; use them on the chorus and some songs where it makes sense. Easy, one footswitch press to operate. The guitar effects are more complicated to get at than I care to use playing out.

The Transit A gets my vote. Basic, easy to use, and built like a tank. Plus, it's versatile enough to run your electric through it if you choose, then turn around and play your piezo equipped guitar through w/o a lot of fiddling.

Have you tried the "Perform VG"? It has all the functions of the Play Acoustic but without the looper and the presets. Sounds like a better fit for your needs.

I can't say what the best is because I haven't tried them all.

The Boss VE-8 was good enough to warrant my money. The only improvements I'd make to it would be to add a shimmer verb and make the octave effect more POG-like, giving you a viable faux 12-string. I'd also like to ask why they included a ring modulator on an acoustic unit.

HX Stomp here as well. It's incredible and it accepts IRs from the Tonedexter.
