Thanks Jim and thanks for all the help too!
I laid down some thinned HHG as a sealer. Maybe I'll try shellac next time? Anyways, so much fun. Sam |

OK I must be crazy and like challenges.....or something!
I decided to remove fretboard to remove broken truss rod (I have no idea what its problem was but it was not budging neck, stripped or not). LMI glue holds something fierce. A lot of wood came up with the fretboard. I decided to fill in neck with more mahogany, re-rout truss rod slot etc. After glueing same ol fretboard on (with frets I might add), it was NOT close to flat and truss rod wasnt helping enough. Remove and start again. I added more mahogany and flattened almost perfectly. Clamping same ol fretboard glued on a bit wavy in one spot. It was at this point that I decided to do what everyone else would have probably recommended: Make NEW neck. I just worked so hard to get that neck join close to right and didnt want to redo it. So now, to my question: I've decided I want to even take it a step further back and redo top varnish finish. There are lots of witness lines, and chips and scrapes etc etc etc. Should I strip in attempt to preserve sunburst or just sand back to bare wood and reburst? Its OK to leave back and sides finished, right? Thanks for any advice. Sam |

Thanks mAtt! Very nice of you. And very nice considering I see you like some high end guitars!!!
Anyways, I sort of hate necks right now, as they are proving to challenge me (I made electric necks without a hitch!!!?!). BUT, I love the birds beak neck joint and i love john greven for his instructions (better yet as it turns out, one of john grevens apprentices/ex employee now works for preston Thompson guitars just 30 minutes from me. So now I can go directly to Anothe great resource!). Life's good! Sam by samvanlan, on Flickr by samvanlan, on Flickr by samvanlan, on Flickr |

Great build. I think the burst looks killer especially over the maple.

OH yeah, and I did a ridiculous comparison, so my brother might get a sense of what it sounds like. So you can listen to that if you want. I compare this with a SCGC 000 1929 and my single 0 Harmony (ladder braced hehe).
