Default Our House by Graham Nash (guitar cover)

Graham Nash wrote and performed this song on the piano, so I worked out a guitar arrangement that I used here. I have simplified the piano arrangement a little to make it easier to play on the guitar. I've provided chord diagrams and lyrics with the video.

Graham Nash played this in the key of A on the piano. I eventually decided to play this for my voice in the key of G, which is capo 5 using the key of D.

I hope you find this helpful. Thanks for listening.

- Glenn

Nice one Glenn.

I used to listen to CSN&Y constantly years ago.

I love the ones that “sound” simple, but are arranged beautifully. I never miss your offerings. Don’t recognize that guitar even though I’ve seen you play it before.

Such a familiar song and a really nice arrangement of it. A really happy song too which is nice to hear. Is that the Shepherd guitar? Sounds so good.

Hi Honkycat,

Thanks so much. Yes, it is a real feel-good song about the best of times for Graham Nash and Joni Mitchell. I am playing the Sheppard guitar. Good memory! It really does have a lovely sound! I, too, thought it sounded perfect on this song. I should play it more.

Hope all is well!

Very nice, Glenn! One of my favorites from CSNY and I love to cover it too.

Thank you Barry!

I'm pleased that you thought this came out okay. I used to listen to CSN&Y all the time and still do.

My wife recently woke up with this song in her head and asked me if I might consider doing this song. I didn't realize that I was going to have to reconstruct the song from the piano accompaniment, but it turned out to be a great project and I really enjoyed this.

And it's one of those songs that sounds so good with just one voice and one guitar that it needs nothing else to complete the song.

Thanks for taking time, Barry! I hope all is well for you.

- Glenn

Hi Larry,

Thank you for your kind comments. I'm so pleased that you felt this worked out well.

I, too, love the songs that sound simple even if there are subtle things that are not so easy. That Bb chord with the capo up on the 5th fret is difficult to play cleanly, for example. I also worked at simplifying the chords more than what the piano arrangement would have called for. And even with the simplification, it sounds good, which in itself is rewarding.

Thank you for taking time to watch and comment, Larry. The guitar, by the way, is a luthier-built Gerald Sheppard GA Ave Maria, which I bought used from a friend. I feel very lucky to have this wonderful guitar. It's beautiful and it sounds beautiful, too.

Hope all is well for you!

Thank you, MtoMSoon! I'm glad you felt I did okay with this. And yes, being able to sing is an advantage, but it takes practice like anything else. Still, the guitar as a voice is very sweet, too.

Thanks for taking time to listen and comment! I hope all is well.

Lovely rendition Glenn and I enjoyed hearing it played on guitar rather than piano.

Very nice Glenn. Your approach to the song is great - nice musicality in the guitar backing.
