It is a satin finish, though I don't know what it is actually finished with. Lowden themselves refer to their "unique satin finish", but without giving any more details. https://lowdenguitars.com/maintenance-repair/

Great looking guitar, Colin! The F23 is one of my favorites from Lowden. Cedar and walnut just works - clarity and richness. Great, versatile combination. Here's a sound sample:

Fretboard inlay depicts a Dublin landmark, the Poolbeg Towers, which are part of a disused power plant in the Dublin docklands area. Every Dublin City resident grows up within sight of them. Everyone coming home into Dublin by air or sea will remember what it feels like to see them again, especially when you've been away for a while or are leaving.

I grew up right beside the Coast and I will always associate the sight of them with home, leaving home and returning home. They're done in Jasper stone (a form of quartz I think). I did not think I would like them until I saw them in person.

Unlike, for instance, Martin satin finishes which are ‘satin’ lacquer (a lacquer with an added ‘flattening’ agent), Lowden guitars are sprayed with standard gloss lacquer which is then ‘knocked-back’ to satin by hand-rubbing with steel wool. The result is a much nicer, smoother, quieter finish.

That's right. I knew they had a twist on it. Much more labor-intensive, but the results speak for themselves!

I owned a 2014 Taylor 416 LTD cedar/walnut. Very responsive and subtle, not as dynamic as spruce/ rosewood or hog, but lovely tone. Not a huge headroom for heavy strumming, better for finger style.

I have a cedar over walnut McIlroy, an A25c model. It’s an Irish guitar, of the Lowden lineage. I play fingerstyle and keep it in DADGAD. I love the immediate response, warmth and complexity of the cedar. Very loud and rewards a softer touch. The walnut is an ideal compliment imo, it offers a lot of clarity and airiness. I have a cedar over rosewood Lowden (F25) that is quite dark and rich in comparison. I wouldn’t say it’s the most versatile guitar though in all fairness compared to most spruce topped American guitars, they are kind of their own thing
