Same can be said for the Easybeats here in Australia.

BTW - Easybeats guitarist George Young had 2 younger brothers that also formed a band - AC/DC

Some great choices here. Mine would be "Ride Captain Ride" by Blues Image.

Kind of an early video form 1970:

And Vanda and Young went on to pretty cool things in Flash and the Pan. The debut album and Lights In The Night were both pretty fun records!

Some great tunes on this list. My contribution, from the 90s. The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony.

I guess this thread demonstrates that a definition of "one hit wonder" is often dependent on where in the world you live.

IMO, the ultimate one hit wonder was by the “One-ders” (get it?), and was specifically written for the film, “That Thing You Do”. The plot was centered around a fictional band that achieves rapid fame with their first song and soon after that, their lives and their group falls apart.

At some lost time in the '60s I was in an acoustic trio p[laying the folk clubs of west London.

Jon Evans (our maestro) worked out an arrangement of thi with our singer playing the trumpet solo on a flute (!).

In British folk clubs ! went down a storm

Still think it's a great piece.

We also did this,

I understand your sentiment and agree with it in some (many) instances. No disrespect was intended to Ashcroft and Co., but that's the song that defines the band for a lot of folks in the US based on what made the Billboard charts, got the most radio/commercial play, etc.

Personally, The Drugs Don't Work is my favorite song by the band. I believe it was a hit on the UK charts but didn't get much play in the US. Fantastic song.

Well, here is the quintessential "one hit wonder", and then another, and then another, and then...etc.

Well, according to urban legend (which is being refuted), Decca didn't think they would go anywhere.

Here’s an interesting article about how the song was written (by Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne)) and how he wanted it to sound ‘almost’ like a Beatles song. https://consequenceofsound.net/2016/...-thing-you-do/

This song is a real ear-worm... beware!

"You've Got To Hide Your Love Away", The Silkie

Supposedly John Lennon liked their version (which I believe he produced) better than the Beatles version.

"Last Song" by Edward Bear
or
"Billy Don't Be A Hero" by Paper Lace (I think)
or
"Brandy" by Looking Glass

I love them all but can't say which is my favorite.

Best,
PJ
