Default DADGAD info thread

Thought this would be a good idea. Here's a webpage I found with some interesting chord info:

https://www.guitar-chord.org/article...ad-tuning.html

I also recently purchased this book, the The Big DADGAD Chord Book. The title says it all

Post your favorite resources for DADGAD also.

Maybe we could also have threads for CGDGCD and CGDGAD if anyone wants to start one.

Hi Barry,
Here are two favorites of mine:
The Guitar Book Pierre Bensusan
Understanding DADGAD Doug Young

It's my understanding that El McMeen is also working on a book of his adopted tuning CGDGAD.

Hi Barry and Andre,

El and Sandy Shalk released their book on CGDGAD tuning this week. I purchased it and wrote a review in this thread. Warning, it is addictive

I've toy'd around a bit with dadgad lately....

If I have to go from open strings to 12:e fret dadgad is useless for me...I need to find a way to play using notes on 1-5 fret

This has been posted before, but definitely belongs somewhere near the beginning of a DADGAD thread!

BTW: DADGAD 3 half-steps down, and then capo on 2. That's how he gets that kind of dead, buzzy string sound and the easy bends. That, and the dodgy audio quality of course.

Laurence Juber plays almost exclusively in DADGAD. I believe he has published a "learn to play" DVD.

I tune to DADF#AD. That one fret separation is easier on my sausage fingers.

I agree with pitar DADF#AD is far better tuning. I use it to play the Wabash Cannon Ball, Yellow of Rose Texas, You are My Sunshine, When the Roses Bloom In Spring , Ashokan Farewell , most of what I know by Chris Smither and many other great tunes.

Nice repertoire. Most of my playing is my own writing but I do play Little Martha in that tuning.

Hmmm, no. It's not "better" imo, just different. I play in dadf#ad as well as cgdgcd, gcdgad and dadead. There's tons of other tunings as well. The idea of this thread to share resources on DADGAD. We can start another thread on DADF#AD also, but don't rain on this one, ok? Thanks.

I like DADGBD slightly more. I use it to play fingerstyle versions of:
Wild Horses (Stones)
Longer Than (D. Fogelberg)
Both Sides Now and Little Green (J. Mitchell)
He's not Heavy (Hollies)

But like the man said, this is a DADGAD thread.
Start your own DADGBD (double drop D) thread!

I’m playing several songs with the tab written in DADGAD currently. How many of you take a song you would play in standard or some other tuning and change it (re-transcribe?) to play it in DADGAD tuning. I’m thinking it would be easier with a song in the key of D if you are playing it on a guitar in standard tuning. I’ve never done it and curious about the why and how.
