McPherson Touring going to the BVI
Hello Everyone
Just picked up a McPherson Touring. Just a quick question. I’m flying down to the BVI for a Moorings Yacht Cruise and I’m planning on taking the McPherson. I’ve read quite a bit about taking a smaller guitar on to the plane and the challenges of doing it. What I’m wondering is. If the Touring is in it’s hard case is there any harm in just checking it ? Thanks Phil |

Phil, it depends what airline you are on and even which crew you get how helpful they may be. I would not be worried about my CF guitars safety when checked, even in my hard bag, but I would try to check it at the gate so you know it got to the plane, FWIW. My guitar normally rides in the cockpit but sometimes plans change and it has never been an issue, even without a hard case. Enjoy the trip, the Moorings does a nice job and adding the guitar to the trip will be awesome.

I've rented from Moorings and Sunsail out of Tortola. The BVI is wonderful. Enjoy your trip and your guitar!

If you can afford to replace the guitar and it has no importance to you if it's damaged, lost or stolen, check it with the airline. But remember they often loose or damage luggage.

We just returned from the BVI and I can say that the touring was a blast to have along for the ride. Loud enough to sit and play for 12 people on the boat and even took it up to a few beach bars and played a some tunes.
Flying with American was very easy. I did use the hard case and was able to carry it on and had no issues putting it in the overhead storage compartments. The Crew were always very helpful. Thanks for all the advice. Phil |

I've checked my x7 once and it was fine. I usually just bring it and stick it in the overheard. Cf is very much indestructible.

I took my Rainsong P-12 to St. Maarten twice and also to Italy. I gate checked each time. I used an SKB Hard Foam gig bag. No problems at all. I would not check it in as luggage.
Ask first to go in the overhead (it will fit), worst case would then be the gate check but gate check items are usually last on and first off so it reduces risk of abuse.
