Thank you for the heads up, Kev. We are usually not too far behind you. What is your favorite kind of firewood?

We had to stop burning firewood years ago because of my wife's asthma

We have Propane in both a fireplace insert in the Front room , and a free standing stove in the basement art room.. But our house is so thermally efficient that honestly between the Radiant Floor system and the Passive Solar gain, we only use the insert at Christmas if the kids are here ,,and only occasionally use the art room stove for maybe 15- 20 minutes in the morning ....

Wow - crazy that your house is so efficient. Mine is not so much as I get through seven cords of tonewood while trying to take it easy in a winter season, and I still get cold. Last year we had a bunch of spruce and pinion pine that smelled like cinnamon. This year I have a little bit of red cedar from New Mexico but mostly Aspen which is plentiful and cheap in this area but burns like paper. Firewood physically wears me out though.

Tone wood for sure,,, so can we assume the popping from the spruce is defined and clear, but the redwood has more overtones

Nice today will maybe get to 70. This shot is on our driveway , walking back up to the house from the barn about a half hour ago.

One thing the colder nights has done, is kick the fall colors into gear

It was 95F yesterday, and I went for an evening swim after work. But cooler days are ahead.

(not a fan of snow... but you guys enjoy it!)

Sacramento. It usually doesn't hit mid-90s in CR (and even then, usually only on the coast, not inland), except in the driest time of year (March/April). This time of year, it's mid-80s with a good chance of rain in the afternoon/evening.

Went for a drive today up Union Pass, to see the Aspens turning.

Autumn at 9,000 ft ...

Beautiful fall scenery! Things are just beginning to turn around here at sea level. We'll be traveling at the end of next month, so I'm hoping we still have some color popping in November.

We drove up to Aspen Ridge yesterday, which was the day that summer turned to fall. Sunny and warm in the morning, but then the clouds rolled in and it was chilly by the time we got home.

I actually prefer a cloudy day for picture-taking, for scenery anyway.
